Fairly new to this site, never posted before so first of all a big howdy to everyone!
So anyway i need some help.
Here's the story, basically my FTO won't lock, press the button nothing happens no indicator lights flashing or anything and of course because the car is unlocked and just sitting there because i can't lock it the immobiliser is activating. I took it in to get looked at and the mechanic thinks it's the immobiliser and wants to try resetting it but he can't figure out where the immobiliser is. I was wondering if there's a standard place the immobiliser would be installed in an FTO or if it always varies?
If anyone can help with this it would be greatly appreciated!
Have u first tried replacing the battaries on your alarm key??
If your alarm key doesnt work there is no point in resetting the immobiliser because you will have the same prob again. It would be better to get a new alarm system. If I can recall my immobiliser is below the steering wheel area. Try popping your head where the foot pedals are and look up. That is if i can recall correctly
Thanks guys so much! I can't believe they didn't know where it was. -.-
I got it back tonight with a new immobiliser and new central locking keys but they haven't actually fixed it, if anything they've made it worse. I drove around the block and every time i put the clutch in and foot on the brake to slow down the engine cut out and it definitely didn't stall cause i'm not that silly. Now the car won't start at all, like it tries to put the fuel through but doesn't do anything else, best we can figure is they've messed up the wiring.
Does anyone know if that would be the case or not? Because it seems like i have to tell them how an FTO works to get it fixed properly. =/
If I were you I would prob go to another mech to have the prob sussed out. Im sure there are members in your area that can recommend a good mech for you.
Try getting the mechanic to see if they can pull out any errors codes before they try anything else.... it's usually the best starting point. http://www.ftowa.com/html/workshop/workshopart07.html
Print it out and take it to them if you can't manage it yourself.
