Rolling shell

Post by Taz »

Well since Ben is either ignoring me or just not checking his pm's at all im going to have to look elsewhere.
As of late ive been thinking it will be a wiser choice to purchase a rolling shell to work on the 4g project, rather than strip out a lovely GPR and sell off all of the goodies as i wont notice if its a GR or a GPR when im done with it - no point in wasting a GPR shell on it right?
In any case im on the market for one.
Needs to be a good condition shell with no rust (preferrably no sun roof) and overall good condition.
Preferable items would include headlights, crossmember, seats and dash in tact (guages etc)
Will consider a used FTO, but it would have to be dirt cheap and maybe have a fucked engine/box etc something that will bring the price of it right down, but wont matter to me as it will all be ripped out anyway. Body would have to be in good shape as well.
Let us know if you have or know of anything like this so i can start planning everything out over christmas ready for next year.
Ben's recent fto wreck he had would of been ideal most likely (depending on body cond) but that gives you an idea on what im after.
Lets get this project on the road already
Cheers

Just went around to inspect Yano's - mixed feelings, some good points and some bad, i would need to figure out a few things to decide whether or not it would be worth the effort to invest in it so i guess im still looking for one if i can find a better condition one - was left outside under a tarp for a few years so theres a bit of roof rust and it wont come with the front bar mount part type thingy ma bobby that slides in and bolts down which would be a bitch to find one later on down the track. Also one of the rear lights was a bit busted so i guess thats another thing that i wont be replacing and would have to buy another - little things like that.
Im only looking for a shell here - and dont care if it doesnt have a dash/seats etc etc as they will be stripped out and thrown anyway (although if i come across a cheap enough FTO with a fucked motor or something i can strip out and sell everything that might be the go)

Again, preferrably no rust at all, and the things that i would not have to replace like rear lights the better - but hey if its cheap enough and close enough...
Will be trolling eBay and such daily now to see if i can find something better if not Yano's might be the way to go..

i dno this might sound stupid, but if your using it for track? unless its a ridiculous amount of rust, it wouldnt really matter? or is it a more personal preference? i would prefer no rust too, but it might be a thing that u could ease with.

Yes, it will be strictly for track, but with rust it wont pass a safety check so it wont be able to go in any events. Just way to much hassle and costly to get something with rust in it and try get it out over paying a little extra and not having to deal with it

Somewhere in the General question section has a evo conversion for sale, but that's a while back 8O ruthless!
There is a bit of a thrill watching a track car put together, but is more cost effective buying one that's already modified. Money aside for future mods, or mishaps. When you have the basics all figured out, think to yourself skywalker, how can i make it slightly better and take it from there.

Still looking for a shell, or possibly if very cheap enough, a broken down FTO i can strip out as long as the body is in good nick and comes with all panels.
Almost got a decent one for 1000 but the guy sold his car as a whole on ebay for 3400

Was looking at that but its in melbourne, and doesnt have fenders, bootlid, bonnet or doors - that alone would add up to over 3k easy to go down in the truck and trailer and pick it up (gas) then trying to source these parts cheap enough, and then if i cant pick em up cop postage...
Would be better off buying Yano's 'shell' and dealing with roof rust and no front end/weather damage.
Would prefer one in a bit better shape
Might have to buy a low level GR and strip it out and try to make some money back that way which means i gotta wait to get some more cash

All i need is a shell dude, anything else you can strip out, in fact i encourage it to save me money.
Just a good shell with good panels, maybe a few other luxuries that will make my life easier.
Let us know how you get on.
