Suggestions for petrol friendly cars???

Hey guys, I'm driving to uni everyday and my FTO consumes hell a lot of fuel That's why I'll be selling it.
Now I'm looking for a car that I can save some fuel price, it would be nice if car is not a hatchback.
So what would you guys suggest?

Lol that's the reason why I still drive.
Even If I use public transport IT would cost me around $5 per day, and takes about 1 hour to go there. Whereas If I drive I would spend around 3L, and spend only 30 mins to go to uni, and easier to shop when returning back and so on. So why should I be bothered to use public transport?

Pumping up your tyres, run some octane boost and clean? Running 98 octane?

Its a 2L mate, not a fuel hungry LS1?

Maybe change your driving style, dont lug it up hills, excessive revving, try to predict when lights turn green so you dont have to stop.

Yeah I'm doing that. Not even exceeding 3k RPM on hwy
Just got new tyres so no worries about that

How many L/100km do you get?
Fill up, zero your odometer, drive for half a tank (or full), fill up again, check your odo + how many liters it took to fill up.

You shouldn't be using all that much fuel...

If I were you, I would get a Honda Civic coupe 1.6L. Should be very economical and it looks good and handles well.


Though, keep in mind that if you may only be saving $2-$3 per 100km, which may not really be worthwhile unless you drive loads

Well it's about 600-650ks per full tank which is 55Lish. So roughly 9L/100ks

So, 350km per week is 7L difference per week, or roughly $10 a week.

It's not just that one.
I have to use 98 octane whereas if i get 91 it will save me also 15 cents per liter.
And like I've said 350 is minimum, averagely it's about 450-500km
let's make a quick calc on min results. I spend min 32 liters 98 octane fuel which is 161 cents atm. So it makes $51.5pw
Whereas If i use more fuel efficient car, It will be about 25 liters 91 octane which is 146 atm, which is $36.5
yeah so 15 dollars difference per week, 60 bucks per month, 720 bucks per year!
So when you consider it on a long term it really would worth it. Besides this is my minimum calcualtion...

It is your choice of course as you know your situation better.
How about an EG Civic hatchback 1.5 EFI? Should allow you to use 91RON fuel and use maybe less than 7L/100km

Umm, use 95, it's slightly cheaper.
Don't flog the car and there you go.

Man, I'm cheering with 9L/100 on both the merc and fto (95 octane), coming from 15L with the RVR and Magna. (98 octane)

And as mentioned, ok, buy another car, but then the money you save in petrol you spend on extra rego/ insurance, etc...
doesn't work out, I did that math long ago and said screw it (kept collecting cars, only live once.)

LPG actually ends up costing you more than what regular fuel does. You burn it twice as fast and have to fill up more often, but it doesn't cost half as much as regular fuel. The illusion is that since you're buying cheaper fuel, it should cost less. And while the govt. had the massive rebates for a while, you actually got paid to convert your car to LPG ($3500 for the kit installed, around $4000 rebates). Since that's no longer the case, there's no real use for LPG anymore, until it gets cheap again at least.

lol LPG is bs atm as it costs 89 cents per L damn it was 59 sev months ago!

Hopefully I'll be going from australia few years later so I'll sell it anyways so it wouldn't matter that much if i sell it now or later.
Yeah I cannot handle the cost of v6 engines so i better be looking at 4 cylinder cars.
