Start in the ignition barrel. By the sounds of it there's a short in there and that's causing the issue

Hey fraz, should he bench test or hot wire the starter just to make sure it works?

Blown red fuse in cabin fuse box or how do you know the battery has power? You ave waited a seriously long time since starting it haven't you? Headlights still bright when you turn them on? Try a jump start.

Wouldn't hurt to bench test it.
When you replaced the spark plugs, did you check to see if there was any water in the cylinders? that'll stop a motor from turning over pretty quickly.
Check the fuses as well. But replacing a fuse only fixes the symptom. If it blows straight away again, then there's something seriously wrong.

Check number 12, or swap 12 and 14 to see if it will turn over

No idea. About 5 years ago I remembered turning the key and nothing. From memory it was a fuse in the cabin I think and it was red I think haha.

Starter motors (and alternators for that matter) don't like water. Why do you think they're always mounted up nice and high?
I'm still waiting for my starter motor to pack it in. Been through 2 alternators so far, but that was in ridiculously sludgy water (also, 4x4 not FTO)

The starter in the FTO is located the BOTTOM of the engine. Most starters are mounted at the bottom of the engine as the flywheel is located LOWER in the engine. A puddle would not kill starter that's why I asked. When a starter fails it's usually where and tear to the armature and not from water ingestion.
Now its leading me to believe the op changed the starter because the car was not starting only to find out after changing to another starter it was never the starter?

Any lights on the dash at all?

Water rusts the copper windings and corrodes everything. And you'll find that while the starter is mounted lower in the engine, it's normally mounted as high as possible on the flywheel (not sure of FTO, simply going off the various other vehicles I've worked on). If a car has been waterlogged/flooded, it's good practice to change the starter as it's only a matter of time before it fails.
