Mobile phones - yes.
Distractions - yes.
P Platers - No.
Dickhead P Platers - Yes (although, not limited to just P platers. Wankers on full licenses do exist! but you do have a point, less experience etc.)
Old people - Not really. Of course, theres going to be older drivers who are slower with reactions, etc. but we do have compulsory tests for aged people in NSW. Pop (he is 88!) did his again this year and passed easily. He taught me to drive partly. Never lost any points in his life, hasnt had an accident in 20 years (touch wood!) Depends on the person.

Yea, but elderly people are FAR more likely to have an accident. Everywhere i go in Brisbane its always an elderly lady that seems to almost sideswipe me/cause an accident etc.
Nothing against here but my grandmother back in new zealand, well she has a decorated history with driving the past few years that were directly related to age (thats all i heard)
Yea, some p platers are shining examples of motorists but a good majority are dickheads in commos etc who are just out to recklessly hoon and sh*t to impres there gf/friends etc (also as you stated some open licence wankers in there ss' mainly it seems)
Unfortunately they can police you when you get your licence but they cant police you everywhere, i reckon if we had some kind of a system where there is a constant camera in your car recording at random times, and every few years someone selects a random day/hour at that time and judges off that accordingly or something and determines if you keep your licence etc i dunno. Just saying we need people to act on the road as if there was a driving instructor in the car at all times, then road tolls would almost literally be 0. Shame it will never be.

as for speeding anyway, our southern expressway here in Adelaide is meant to be getting point-to-point speed cameras or some shiz that measures the time it takes for you to get from one to another. wouldn't be suitable for city, but it's a start I guess.

They are already all over the joint in queensland, from brissie to sunny coast (bout 120km stretch heading north, bruce highway) is all average speed camera. Their one stupid weakness, is that the one near sunny cost in on a bridge, with a little mobil as the off/on ramp, and you can literally speed up this desolate road, and come back on the highway and at the same time overtake a few cars, plus miss the camera so you dont get done lmao
But the point is there, ensures pretty well you dont speed.

Kinda ironic though. I mean, I wonder how many deaths occur on the highway as opposed to in the city? but maybe they'll figure something out eventually.

Kinda agree, kinda disagree here Taz,

You only notice the wanker hoons on Ps because, well, theyre doing crap that makes them stand out. It would be very interesting to see some stats on percentages of P platers vs Full license holders who get done for speeding/reckless driving, etc. Maybe Im wrong and you could very well be correct, it just seems that people seem to notice all the dickhead P platers, but not the ones driving properly. Cops hate P platers, too.. its a fact of life You dont look at a full license holder (maybe you do, but I dont ) who is speeding and go what a hoon! You say gee, he must be in a hurry. But if its a P plater - immediately; Reckless little bastard! Hes gonna kill someone! (<-- I think the same thing) Given, experience is a factor too.

Full license holders also face less severe penalties than P platers down here in NSW. i.e. ANY speeding offence is a loss of license for a P plater (we have 4 points but speeding = minimum 3 months license suspension, even if its within 5-10km of the speed limit) while a full license holder can cop as little as a single demerit point loss, out of their 8 maximum points. So the risk is much much lower for a full license holder in terms of breaking the law when compared to a P plater (such as myself - I basically refuse to speed as some of the NSW boys know from our cruises )

As for elderly people, it may not necessarily be simply "age" affecting driving. Things like vision affect it mostly. Although, age does contribute to these so I guess it kinda does contribute to accidents too so youre kinda correct with that in a way. It depends on the person, and their physical and mental capabilities and condition.

P.S. Those point to point speed cameras do jack sh*t. Truckies and cars can literally just sit 30km/h over the limit, pull over half way between the cameras (in NSW im pretty sure theyre just 2 cameras a certain distance apart, not sure how it is for you guys up there, might be a different setup) and have a 2 hour sleep, then get back on at 140km/h and continue on their merry way.
