Gearbox & Clutch + Service

Hey Fellas,
So after been extremely busy the last few months since I bought my FTO, I finally can dedicate some time to it. I did buy it for a cheap price but it did have a few problems and I was well aware of them, but I can finally start giving it some TLC.

Firstly major problem is the gearbox, when I have my foot on the clutch it sounds fine but once I take it off you can hear a loud bearing noise and after doing some research I figured it’s the main shaft bearing, I've already booked Bennoz in to recondition the gearbox and we're in the process of ordering the parts now. I couldn't make up my mind if I should change the clutch too while I'm at it but luckily it started slipping in the last week or two so that’s definitely getting done now and I already ordered the Exedy HD clutch for $350 + flywheel machined for $50.

Second problem is a bad oil leak from the cam seals, so I've getting all the cam seals and crank seal replaced. I've already booked the mechanic to take out the gearbox and put it back in when it’s done, replace the clutch and change all the cam and crank seals for $600.

What else should I service while I have the gearbox pulled out as I'll have 1-2 weeks to work on the car. I can do oil filter, spark plugs and leads later so I'm not too concerned about that. But I was thinking fuel filter and maybe CV joints, anything else I should bother with? The car has 135,000km on the clock and all the belts were done about 10,000km ago.

Haha Dr Phil already took care of that lol.

Mechanic took the gearbox out today and there's a bad leak between the gearbox and the engine, so I need to replace that seal. The clutch is soo worn out it almost looks like the flywheel. My bearing kit also arrived on Friday from the US so time to recondition it and put it all back together :)

There's 2 seals in that area mate, there's the rear main seal on the block, get your mechanic to check that one, and the primary input shaft seal on the box. Of which I'll replace, it comes in the kit ;)

Whenever you're ready mate, I could forseeably do it over xmas & new years, I've got a little bit of free time.

$600 sounds very cheap for what you are doing. Get it in writing before works start.

haha that looks very bad bennoz, best of luck with it

And I've had the mechanic do other work before so I kinda trust him, he's a addicted gambler who would do anything for money lol

Yeah, I've done all the bearings on the input & output shafts now, just have to do the diff & shim it up & you can come get it. Should have time to finish it over the weekend ;)

I've kept that f*cked one, so you can keep it as a souvenir!

Forgot to put these 2 pics up. Relative to the fucked primary input bearing in the vid above, this is the magnetic collector found at the bottom of every box.

The top is what is meant to look like, the bottom is what Sivan's looked like after that bearing had almost collapsed....

Holy crap

You should be able to remove this without taking box apart, for service inspection.
