For the last two mornings my car has refused to change up, after the revs climb it suddenly 'bangs' into third and the neutral light starts flashing. If I stop and restart the car its OK
This serious or is it time to change the fluid and do an ECU reset ? Have had the car 18 months and do not know when the gearbox oil was last cahnged.
Thanks

I would say serious..... the N light flashes when the computer puts the car into "limp" mode to prevent further damage to whatever part is playing up. Do an ECU error code readout and see what it comes up with

But definately start with a gearbox oil change.... Have you looked at the level or state of the gearbox oil.. check the dipstick.

Dont do an ECU reset until you check the codes that are in it - could be something like an input / output speed sensor. If there are no codes then do your reset as it can help.... then again it could be something nasty like the torque converter.

solanoid sounds a bit fuked...take it to a decent auto trans place and there are plenty of sh*t ones. My ford has dodo stuff...lots of people worked on it, in the end this guy cost me 150 and fixed it and was fine until i sold it 4 years later....it wasn't changing into 3rd up and down properly....

My car had this problem that it would not change up from second to third unless you were under about 3K rpm. It was the torque convertor which here in the UK is about £100. I have still not been given any satisfactory explanation of why it does this but a few owners here have changed the TC with good results.
However none of us were getting any error codes from the tip box so check that out first.

i had this problem last year.. mine turned out to be the input speed sensor
Got the part for around $100.. should be cheaper for you to get it from kempy's..
that is.. if that's your problem
