Batracer (An Online Racing Simulator)

Post by Sparhawk »

For those of you who dont know what this is, basically its an online racing simulator game. You control car set up, driver style, qualify and race strategies etc.

It sounds a bit boring, but trust me its fun. Anyway I have started a Private game for users of this forum based on formula1 2006 season, so come along and join up.

A typical season requires 5 or 10 minutes each day online to setup your car etc, and the championship lasts just over a month

Players will need to be registered (free) and logged in before they can enter the private game. When logged in, clicking the following URL will take you to the join game page:

http://batracer.com/-cj?&D&7743

Alternativly, you can select "private games" from the menu and enter the number "7743" into the box.
The game password is "sparhawk". Take care not to accidentally join a public game by mistake.

I wont actually start the season until the teams fill up :)

LOL too keen for a quick time? Usually about 65-70% is a good experimentation number :)

I'm thinking ppl aren't joining for fear of getting hooked and wasting half of their working day on the site HAHA

Why should we be the only ones Mick ? LOL

BTW, both cars in the same team will have exactly the same setup figures for any given race, so talking to your team mate can be beneficial. Hint Hint.

I've thrown down a few practice laps and things look promising. I'm hoping I can be at least competitive in this championship!

I found the site very user unfriendly,
Its hard to understand whats going on as this is the first time I am doing such a thing,

Is this all about the car setup? or there is actual race where i get to drive?
Feeling bit stuped...

its mostly about setup and strategy, but makes more sense once the game is started properly. I cant start the game until we have all the players.

Basically, you set up your car and driving style, qualifying strategy and race strategy. You run practice laps which give you feedback on your setup, and advice to fine tune your settings, and your setup is reflected in your laptimes. Once the game is running, there is a time limit to get all your settings right, then the Qualifying session is simulated, and the results posted. Then there will be a 24 hour timelimit for you to conduct your warmup laps before the race itself. Again you get to tweak your settings.
The race is also simulated, and the results posted, and you can step thru a lap by lap description of what happened thru the race. Then it advances to the next round of the championship where its all repeated.
Things you have to consider with your strategies, are things like Tyre choice, agressiveness, pitstop strategy etc etc.
I will actually start the game when the teams fill up, and it will make more sense as we go.

So to give you a bit of an idea, here is part of the car setup screen :

Image

The top slider sets how much data you get from each test run. Of course the highr you set the slider the moe likely you will have problems or overcook it on the lap etc etc

Next is tyre selection, this is important obviously, and this relates only to your practice/warmup laps. Tyre choice for Qualifying and Race is set up in the corresponding setup menu's

Next are the slider bars for the individual car settings.
There is an ideal number for each setting, and the idea is to try to get as close as possible to this "spot on" figure.

Under each slider is a Min / Max bar, which will tell you where the optimum setting is. As you do your test runs, these max / min bars will slowly narrow in on the ideal setting as you can see on some of mine. When you get the setting spot on, it will tell you, as can be seen on the bottom slider.

That should get you going at least.
Oh and dont bother copying any of my settings. They are different for each team, but both cars in the same team will be identical, so it pays to communicate with your team mate.

Did that help you at all ?

Oh and most ppl playing in this championship are new to it as well, so dont feel disadvantaged :)

After a test run you see how the max / min bar is updated :

So then adjust the slider accordingly, staying inside the max / min reccomendations.

Several runs will zero you in, in no time...

Also, on the car setup screen there is a link to your engineers report. Look at his report because he will give you a very rough idea of where the settings should be...
