Aftermarket Horn Wiring
Yo!
Purchased an aftermarket Gktech deep dish steering wheel a while ago. Fits fine etc.
However I cannot get the horn to work.
The horn button has two tangs coming off it for crimps, but there is only one wire coming out of the boss kit.
I've tried putting it on either one but doesn't seem to work?
Any ideas my brethren?
Most other steering wheels have only the one tang for a crimp.

Re: Aftermarket Horn Wiring
Yeah the FTO setup has me a little confused with the horn.
We have converted FRE55H's steering wheel from stock to Momo wheel .. And have a similar problem .. And that the horn is a different set up, and I think we need to put in the metal plate to ground the horn and make it work..
I think ... That the reason they have the two wires is to have 1 to horn, and 1 to ground ... That way when the button is pressed, you don't need the bash plate to ground the horn ... I think.. Maybe .. Sort of ... I hate electronics...

I just had to add it ......

Re: Aftermarket Horn Wiring
Slip ring contacting with the protuding pin needs to be installed.
both buttons connect to the single wire from the boss, which connects to the slip ring.
Horn works.
Did this mod with the FTO Momo on the RVR.

Is the contact plate on the back of the boss big enough to hit the little brass lug coming out of the column?

Why do I have two connectors on the horn button?

Ground one of them to one of the screws on the boss kitsilverGPX wrote:I'll check.Bennoz wrote:Is the contact plate on the back of the boss big enough to hit the little brass lug coming out of the column?

Plug the other one into the stock plug and ground the other
Make sure there is contact at all time between the little knob coming out of the steering column and the contact ring on the boss kit

Didn't dawn on me you had only 1 button, thought it was a 2 button factor.
In which case, yes as Sahin said, 1 wire needs grounding.

Re: Aftermarket Horn Wiring
I've had boss kits that don't have the plate before, I cut the back off the old wheel with the brass plate & retro fitted it to the back of the new boss.silverGPX wrote:Ohhhhhh now I get it, it looks like my boss kit is made out of cast though

Re: Aftermarket Horn Wiring
I cut all the horn bits out and ran new wires to the loom cause the stock boss setup is messed up and mine started to make metal scratching noises cause the plastics had worn away

Re: Aftermarket Horn Wiring
Just wire the horn button directly to the horn wires in the loom. Easy as mate

Re: Aftermarket Horn Wiring
The wheel doesnt twist all the way around multiple times genius, Just make the cable long enough to go around and it will be fine
