MIVEC V6 into..... 1997 S1 Lotus Elise
Why?
Because I can, and I like to do things a little differently.
The Elise boys have a Honda option, K20A motor and box, engineered mount kit, na or sc, using hondata ecu.
Only done by a specific workshop, buying their mounts and doing it yourself is not an option, due to quality control, it is drive in, drive out, all engineered etc, and costs upwards of $25k.
Power outputs range from the stock 220hp, with documented results showing up to 360hp with sc versions.
These boys are serious, and race. Properly, not track days, proper racing.
I cannot justify spending that sort of dollar on an engine conversion, and I like to do stuff myself anyways.
I have previously put a VG30DET motor into S13 Silvia (10 years ago!).
Anyways, had the Elise for almost 5 years now, original motor dropped a cambelt, so i replaced it with a vvc version of same motor (rover k series) and recently, it has started to run rough, doesn't rev clean under load, etc.
Bugger sorting it, time to do an engine conversion that i have been considering for some time now, your venerable mivec v6.
I considered a few motors, I wanted 2 litre capacity, and a decent standard power output to start with, my train of thought had me consider toyota's 3SGE BEAMS motor, the fwd version from late mr2 and celica, also the ford duratec/mazda mzr, a cosworth 2L duratec with roller barrel throttles and all the bits, but all cosworth'ed up it makes 220hp, i'm not getting more from it!
So I am led to your V6.. The 2L capacity I want, makes 200hp standard, with ability to make some more, and being a small capacity multi cylinder, it revs good, and the sound it can make... well, i'm sold.
The plan is to run the V6 and 5 speed, at the moment I am seriously considering supercharging the motor with a roots type supercharger (think Eaton MP62, or Whipple AX series). After market ECU, likely a Link G4 Xtreme.
Custom exhaust.
The car will run Quantum coilovers (replacing the shot JRZ that i recently removed) and the factory STACK instrument cluster has made way for an AiM MXL.
Down the track a little, I think I will make the move to a Quaife or Sadev sequential 6 speed.
Anyways, I know we all like pics, so here.. motor and box, bits and pieces for cleaning, cleaned/painted bits...
Apologies for the oversized pics. CBA resizing, and re-uploading them all again!
So, currently at the point where I am trial fitting, and "clearancing", or modifying bits to make it fit!
There are some spots where it is quite tight, ie, in contact with bits it cannot be. So am in the process of making adjustments to make that contact become non-contact..!
Then, fabricate mounts to hang the motor and box in there, then i will move on to sourcing and fitting engine bits, fabricating gear linkages, get custom driveshafts, fabricate the exhaust, get the ecu and wire it up.
I recently purchased a set of Works Engineering cam gears, I like the quality, so have ordered their billet oil cap, and will also be getting their fuel pressure regulator and a billet 70mm throttle body.
I currently have 2 flange plates being laser cut on which to build up inlet manifolds, one for n/a, and one to mount the supercharger.
I will be getting a lightweight flywheel and decent clutch.
Considering a couple of options for these, not yet sure.
Will update when i have more worthy of an update.

Looking great there Clint
Why did you want to stick to 2L? Is it for class racing?
And, did you ever, or do you plan to weigh the 6A12 to compare to your other options (like the Toyota or K20 you were talking about)?
Pics of the S13??

No access to the other options to weigh.
I will weigh the mivec motor and box and compare with the original rover motor and box.
Capacity limit due to nsw legal limits in respect to original weight of car, and therefore legally allowable mods according to rta rules.

Oh really? LOL
Well, the only wait now will be between updates.
Will get some more pics for tomorrow.
Will compare cam gears with stock, and with belt, tooth profile.
Wrapped headers.
Couple of modified bits of the motor.. block casting ground off, modified water manifold..

The S13 surely is different.
How did it handle with the big V6?

Man that S13 woulda hauled ass!
I'm having a good look at that throttle body though, I just have to be in the market for a new Linear TPS, so why not bolt it to one of those bad boys!

Is the TB the 70mm one for the Evo range? I would expect 70mm to be too big to be honest
