Most starters at work die because the solonoid packs it in, we have had to change three this month so far. 2*commodore + 1*territory, we had a ford ranger flooded up to the mirrors and the starter worked fine. Thats why I mentioned a bench test because you can test the starter and the solonoid. The starter may not have been installed correctly, especially considering it is a replacement from Bennoz. Was the old starter tested?

It's when you get the sticky solenoids you start having real fun...

The starter in that ranger will still work fine, but will be compromised. Like anything, only a matter of time. Water just speeds the process up.
I'll have an FTO one day... i swear!

until then:
1. 2001 Merc-Benz A160 (porta-loo on wheels)
2. 2007 Peugeot 307 TDi (more fun than you'd expect)
3. 2009 Mitsubishi Triton Di-D (a monster in its own right)
4. 1992 Nissan NX Coupe (club car and project car)
5. 1996 Holden SB Barina - "The Nugget"
6. 1996 Jeep XJ Cherokee Sport - The Budget Build
7. 2010 Toyota Landcruiser 76 Series - V8 Goodness... - Build coming soon.
8. 1990 Audi 90 manual - The delightfully dignified daily driver

Starter motors (and alternators for that matter) don't like water. Why do you think they're always mounted up nice and high?

I'm still waiting for my starter motor to pack it in. Been through 2 alternators so far, but that was in ridiculously sludgy water (also, 4x4 not FTO)
The starter in the FTO is located the BOTTOM of the engine. Most starters are mounted at the bottom of the engine as the flywheel is located LOWER in the engine. A puddle would not kill starter that's why I asked. When a starter fails it's usually where and tear to the armature and not from water ingestion.

Now its leading me to believe the op changed the starter because the car was not starting only to find out after changing to another starter it was never the starter? :D

Two starters not working points to "it not being the starter" me thinks. Doubt it was bench tested.

Starter was my spare. Came from the maroon FTO I bought to wreck. I drove it halfway home, starter worked fine.

thanks guys,

so, back to the fto, there are no blown fuses, battery has power, all instruments inside work, im currently letting all the sensors etc in the engine bay dry out and cleaning them, again just to make sure,

but my next question before i start pulling my dash apart, the engine computer ecu etc, would that be located behind the quarter panel on the passenger floor?

okay, so ive gone out and stuck my under my dash and moved around,
found my computer,
also so found that pretty much all up behind the passenger side of the dash, including the computer, is covered in water, got covered in water when it flooded, somehow there was evan coolant on my floor, i dont know lol,
but my computer is wet,
so,
do i take it out, air it out, spray it with inox to draw water out etc,
or is this one of those things where i just dont bother, haha
