I could be wrong but If you put it in neutral and the shaking goes away, I'm thinking it would be a transmission problem. The stepper motor does cause rough idling but mostly when the idle drops so low the car wants to stall. What rpm are you getting this shaking at? If its over 500 then I dont think it would be the stepper. Having said that I've never had a stepper motor problem so I can't say for sure.
Does it start hard?
Does it shake at high speed?
Does your transmission change gears smoothly?
Does the car redline?
hahaaha yeah funny u said that, my "sister in law" seriously thought there was something wrong with her car, when every time she slam on the brakes and ABS turns on.
I swear when i heard that i could stop laughing for like 10mins.
